College Jeanne Sauvé Retrofit and Addition

Project Description

The new Student Commons and Main Entry additions at Collège Jeanne-Sauvé were designed to provide ta revitalized sense of community and connection to the outdoors for students, and involved the demolition and retrofit of nine existing spaces, expansion of public areas and updates to outdoor spaces.

The new main entrance provides the building with a bright and welcoming entrance, opens a busy corridor with pockets of space for students to gather and improves overall circulation. The student commons replaced a small cafeteria and provided an expansive gathering and eating space complete with a new kitchen and immediate access to new outdoor spaces. The commons area also features a stage that extends both inside and outside to connect the spaces. The addition allows the school to participate in the community to a greater extent by acting as a hub for events, community gardening and performances.

The project included repurposing classrooms for a larger student services space in anticipation of the growing student population, as well as classroom and administration renovations to better suit future needs. The scope of work included new mechanical and electrical, extensive millwork and finishings, parking lot and site works. This involved a structurally reinforced roof structure, slab-on-grade concrete foundation, structural steel framing, exterior curtain wall, new drywall and flooring, and a new cafeteria with updated kitchen
