Supporting the Elevator
In addition to the structural modifications, comprehensive mechanical and electrical systems were installed to support the elevator’s operation. This involved integrating the elevator controls, power supply, and HVAC requirements into the building’s existing systems. An access door was also created to allow for easy entry to the new elevator from the main building areas. To ensure the new elevator addition was properly sealed and weatherproofed, modifications to the roofing were made. This included installing new roofing materials around the elevator shaft to maintain the building’s envelope integrity.
Asbestos Removal
A critical part of the project involved asbestos abatement and disposal. This process required careful coordination and adherence to safety protocols to remove hazardous materials, ensuring the safety of both construction workers and future building occupants. The asbestos removal was done in compliance with environmental regulations and disposal requirements.
Active During Construction
During the construction, the school remained fully operational, which required careful planning and coordination to ensure minimal disruption to daily activities. The construction team worked closely with school administrators to schedule high-impact tasks, such as the asbestos abatement and heavy structural work, during off-peak hours or school breaks to ensure the safety of students and staff.
To minimize noise and dust, temporary barriers were erected, and strict dust control measures were implemented throughout the process. The phased approach to construction allowed for different areas of the building to be worked on without interrupting the daily function of the school. Safety protocols, including clearly marked construction zones and maintaining fire access routes, were put in place to ensure the school environment remained secure at all times.
