Flin Flon Aboriginal Friendship Centre keekih Affordable Housing Initiative

Project Description

Keekih Affordable Housing

The construction management project is construction of a new wood-framed multi-unit residential building, with a total square footage of 11,472 square feet. The proposed two-level walk-up building will accommodate 16 affordable, (social housing) self-contained units. The affordable housing project includes spaces for common laundry facilities, a meeting room with public washroom, an office, storage, mechanical and electrical rooms. There will be one commercial tenant which includes a welcoming foyer and reception area, four offices, a computer lab, a training room, and two washrooms. The design uses universal design principles and enhanced accessibility features. At least 5% of units will be accessible.

Sustainable Design

Keekih is focused on environmental impact by employing economical and energy efficient materials and systems which are cost effective, to improve on the buildings environmental footprint – not only from an organization perspective, but from a tenant perspective as well. The design focuses on environmental sustainability to reduce operating costs with an array of green technologies and energy systems. The building will be Net-Zero Ready (high-performance building with very low every demand) and will meet or exceed the Efficiency Manitoba’s New Buildings Program 2.2 certification for energy efficiency.
