Kamsack Hospital and District Nursing Home Renovation
About the project
This Hospital and District Nursing Home is in Kamsack, Saskatchewan and includes a 61-bed long term care facility that offers levels of care beds such as respite, palliative or convalescent. Originally built in 1965, CPI completed a full renovation of the existing nursing home, which involved a new roof, windows and doors, and upgrades to the interior. The scope included an extensive new addition, which increased the number of available rooms. The building was occupied during construction.
One challenge during demolition was that the original roof was built using stramit insulation, which is created from wheat straw and is prone to holding moisture. The insulation was so full of moisture that it couldn’t be lifted. CPI crews had to slide the insulation off the roof onto the ground to be broken up and disposed of.
