Hearthstone Community Group Home
About the project
Hearthstone Community Group chose CPI as their design-builder for this new community living home in Selkirk, Manitoba. The building is a single-unit side-by-side built on adjacent lots. Classified as a residential home, it features enhanced requirements for fire safety and accessibility, an on-site housekeeping unit and space for six full-time residents with support staff. The goal of the facility is to provide parents with adult children the opportunity to live a vibrant and integrated life.
Each side is 2,400 square feet with three individual apartment-style bedrooms, with community dining and living rooms for meals and visitors. The total building area is 5,130 square feet including the rear deck and front entrance overhang. Fully accessible for wheelchairs, each unit has two points of exit for independent egress and specialty tubs with roll-in showers. The house features a single office, kitchen and laundry room to service both sides, staff rooms, garage with mud room and an unfinished basement for utilities and storage.
The work included design and construction management, site excavation and grading, slab-on-grade concrete foundation, wood-frame construction, mechanical and electrical, installation and connection to municipal utilities including natural gas, water, electricity and sewer, energy-efficiency exterior building envelope including high-efficiency windows and doors, millwork and interior finishes and landscaping.
As a not-for-profit corporation and charity, Hearthstone Community Group provides community living homes and day programs to intellectually challenged adults in the Selkirk area. This new house will be their eighth residential care facility.
