Town of Birtle New Water Treatment Facility

About the project

Completed in 2019, the new Water Treatment Plant for the Town of Birtle replaced an aging structure that was not capable of producing water in compliance with Drinking Water Safety Act (DWSA) requirements, raising aesthetic and health concerns and lacking primary disinfection.

The project was completed in two phases. Phase One involved the construction of a new 800,000 litre (800m3) cast-in-place concrete reservoir, complete with a 3,000 square foot pre-engineered superstructure and associated site works. Phase Two encompassed the building fit-up for a new water treatment plant and the supply and installation of all new mechanical and electrical equipment, civil site development and associated works.

Total construction time was 11 months and much of the work took place during fall and winter months. CPI managed and coordinated all aspects of construction including quality control and assurance and all close out procedures. Suggested changes allowed for the WTP to be completed under budget and on time.
