Installation of Petroleum Storage Tanks and Site Revitalization

Project Description

Installation of Petroleum Tanks

In accordance with the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Environmental Code of Practice for Aboveground and Underground Storage Tank Systems Containing Petroleum and Allied Petroleum Products, CPI began the supply and install of two 75,000 liter aboveground horizontal fuel storage tanks in March 2022.

Waste Management Plan

The project included the remediation and safe disposal of the existing storage tanks, which required a detailed Waste Management Plan. All materials defined as hazardous or toxic were placed in designated containers and handled and disposed of in accordance with the CEPA, TDGA, Regional and Municipal regulations. Salvaged material’s storage areas were clearly labelled and included barriers and security devices. All emptied containers were sealed and stored safely.

Spill Response Plan

A detailed Spill Response Plan was developed and implemented prior to starting work, which outlined the spill prevention and response measures to be employed in the event of a leak or spill from the tanks. A copy of the plan was submitted to the client for review, and included safe fuel transfer procedures, a description of the storage tank system, site characteristics (environment, infrastructure and human sensitivities), response measures, a list of individuals and contact numbers for those who will implement response measures, and a list of spill equipment available onsite.
