St. Marks Coptic Church and Community Centre
About the project
Located in Winnipeg, St. Mark Coptic Church sought to convert 40,000 square feet of an existing commercial building into a church with recreation facilities. The project involved rehabilitation to existing areas to suit the new design, which included site works, millwork, new electrical and mechanical services, and interior finishes. The building remained operational during the entire construction period and was completed in two phases.
The new chapel area accommodates up to 100 people and features a cross-shaped dome ceiling with prefabricated gypsum panels from Mexico, extensive hand-carved woodwork from Egypt, custom stained-glass windows and concealed lighting features. The CPI project team was challenged to maintain the cultural design of the new facility while also adhering to local building codes and tracking the delivery and installation of custom materials.
