City of Toronto Finch Avenue Fuel System Upgrades Phases 1&2
About the project
CPI was hired by the City of Toronto (COT) to remove and upgrade the existing private fuel infrastructure at the Finch Avenue depot, including piping, dispensing stations, tank management controls systems, data transmission systems, three underground fuel storage tanks and tank filling access platforms with stairs.
The existing infrastructure included two fuel dispensing islands, four double pump fuel dispensers, and three double-walled steel aboveground fuel storage tanks. CPI was tasked with demolishing all existing fueling systems (tanks, piping, instrumentation, dispensing stations and structural pads which were then turned over to COT. This also included removing the existing electrical equipment including petroleum electrical panel, emergency stop, interior electrical conduit, panel, probes, sensors and remote high-level alarm and acknowledgment system.
The project was situated on 8.50 acres in a primarily industrial area, with four separate buildings and paved surfaces surrounding the buildings. Access to the site was only from Finch Avenue and the site was occupied during the construction period. Other scopes of work included excavating and properly removing soil from construction areas. CPI was also tasked with installing a new underground oil/water separator for storm water collection from tank and dispensing pads. Discharge from the separator was connected to the existing storm water line on site.
