Firewater Safety Systems Upgrade

About the project

To ensure critical fire response redundancy and site safety, Shell Canada contracted with CPI to install and commission a new electric firewater pump and associated systems – including controller cabinet, cables and piping – at Shell’s Gretna Terminal south of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The new system was installed within an existing pump house, which also houses an existing diesel-driven pump which would remain as the backup firewater pump moving forward.

The Gretna terminal is a critical aspect to Shell Canada’s fuel distribution operations in Manitoba, and strict adherence to schedule as well as safety and quality control were key elements to the success of this firewater systems project. This project is the latest in a long list of successful projects completed between Shell Canada and CPI since 2001.
